BIGGEST SELLING COUNTRY ALBUM BY A GROUP
The biggest selling album by a country group is Wide Open Spaces by the Dixie Chicks (1998), which had sold 8 million copies by December 1999. Within a year of release, the record had gone quadruple-platinum and earned a Grammy for Best Country Album. The Dixie Chicks (their name is inspired by the Little Feat song, "Dixie Chickens") formed in 1989, when fiddler Martie Seidel and her banjo-playing sister, Emily Erwin, got together with bassist Laura Lynch and guitarist Robin Lynn Macy.
